Time Gentlemen Please ! Drinking ... without the politics ! After almost 37 yrs at the 'Boar's Head' - (AKA the 'Pig's Nut' !) - Cyril and Olwen Rumney placed their bar towels on the handpumps for the final time during the 2nd week of April 2001 ! The original position offered them at the 'Boar's Head' on May 19th 1964 , was to last only 6 weeks while FERNVALE BREWERIES tried to locate them into the 'Four Bells' pub in St. Athan in the Vale of Glamorgan. They retired to Llwyn Onn, the residential site that was to be built behind the pub, (so they were informed back in 1964). 30 years later, the site materialises ! The 'Boar's Head' allegedly dates back to 1875 (?) , and when they both took over from Mrs Rose Worgan , the price of Beer then was the equivalent of 5p a pint. Cyril and Olwen were presented with an award on December 14th 2000 by Mid Glamorgan Camra Branch for their 'Outstanding Services to Real Ale'. Sadly Olwen passed away on Friday 13th July 2001, just 3 short months after retiring .
